Being confident in a gym environment isn’t something you’re just born with – it’s something you build. Think of it like a muscle you work on improving. And, just like learning any other new skill or technique, it starts off small.
I’f you’ve ever felt unsure of yourself while working out and compared your body or abilities to others, or you’ve simply felt out-of-place, you’re not alone. These are such common feelings that almost everyone has them, especially women. But, you don’t have to be ruled by them.
Here are some easy ways to build genuine confidence on your fitness journey:
1. Start with small wins
Confidence always grows when you do something difficult and then realise: “I did that.” So, start with something small; maybe it’s coming to your first class, maybe it’s simply walking through the door. Celebrate these small wins.
2. Focus on how you feel, not how you look
This gym isn’t about showing off; instead, it’s about feeling stronger, more energised and more at home in who you are.
3. Ask questions
We don’t expect you to know everything. In fact, I love it when people ask me questions; that’s how everyone learns, and you get more from every session.
4. Create your own goals
Your goal can be big things like weight loss, running a marathon or strength lifting, but it can also be smaller goals like sleeping better, carrying shopping without pain or simply taking more time for yourself.
5. Choose an environment that supports you
One reason this is a woman-only gym is so you don’t have to feel watched, judged or self-conscious. The whole vibe is made for ease and encouragement.
And, don’t forget, everyone was once new to a gym; everyone had a first day. Confidence doesn’t come from comparison; it comes from consistency, community and showing up for yourself.
You’ve got this.
